MRDC 600 MHz Spectrometer

Magnet: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 & 5 | Console: Day 1 | Day 2 & 3 | Day 4

Day 4 & 5:
Charging of the MRDC 600MHz was uneventful. There were no quenches and the magnet was overcharged and brought back to its final field by the end of the day. The next day involved the cycling of all the shims and cryo-shimming. Much of the procedure was automated. The deuterium signal was optimized and then all leads were removed and the magnet was topped up with cryogens. Everything is no ready for Varian to come and install their new console system on May 10th, 2005.

The de-mountable lead hooked up and ready to go.

Charging of the magnet applies heat to the helium cooled system so the He manifold must be opened to dissipate excess pressure. Helium will need to be topped up after charging.

Magnet over charged to 119.452 Amps. For 600MHz the amperage will be 119.302 Amps. This overcharging will help reduce drift in the magnet.

Cycling of the shims and optimizing of the cryo-shims. A lot of waiting.

Deuterium signal before cryo-shimming.

Deuterium signal after cryo-shimming.

Removal of the de-mountable lead.

De-mountable lead.

Insertion of plug which will protect the de-mountable lead port.

Insertion of baffle rod and sealing of main service port.

Sealed service port.

Just a reminder to Bruce as to who's responsible for this magnet. Good luck to Bruce and the MRDC! Stay tuned for console installation starting May 10th, 2005.
